When did you start working in the travel industry?

I began working for an independent agency back in 1981 straight from sixth form and had been looking for a career which would be both challenging and interesting. Travel was obviously the right choice as, more than thirty five years later, It's still a job I really enjoy.

What is your dream holiday destination?

High on my wish list when I have the time available to make such a journey, would be an expedition cruise to South Georgia, as I would love the opportunity to take some guided hikes on such a remote island.

What has been your favourite holiday, which you have booked for a customer, that you would love to take yourself?

This is a really difficult question to answer, as I always try to put myself in the position of my clients when they book and would only book something I would go on myself. One of my favourites has to be a tailor-made trip through Russia, though, with private tours at various places along the route.

What are your top tips for a cruise holiday?

Choose the right cruise line to meet your expectations - many cruisers book by itinerary only and can be disappointed when the cruise line does not meet their standards. Buy the best cabin you can afford. You wake with natural daylight when at home, so why compromise when on holiday? Ports can often get in the way of a good cruise!!! Do not be afraid of itineraries which feature a number of days at sea.

My Favourite Memory

I love quirky and unusual destinations, as my many regular clients will know and I am extremely lucky to have been able to have included Serbia, Russia, Turkmenistan, Iran, Sudan and North Korea amongst some of my most memorable travel experiences. There is just such a thrill travelling to places where tourism is not quite so highly developed.
